Afghani succes for Noshaq summit : full of peace & hope

During the summer of 2009, four Afghan climbers will attempt to do what none of their countrymen dreamt possible: reach the summit of Mount Noshaq at 7,492 meters, in the Hindu Kush range. Their goal is to send a message of hope and peace to the Afghan and international communities and contribute to the rebirth of mountaineering tourism in the province of Wakhan.

These four adventurers, all originating from the Wakhan valley, are proud to take part in this historic expedition. They already possess solid mountaineering skills, having participated in various training courses in Afghanistan and in Italy, all organized with the support of Mountain Wilderness International, the Aga Khan Foundation, the United Nations and USAID. Their instruction will be completed with a technical course in the Alps throughout the spring of 2009.

We can complete this information by an excellent report on the corridor of Wakhan signed Mountainunity (http://www.mountainunity.org), an english association which works for a humanitarian aid in the area :

Northern Kashmir is an isolated and contrasted area, deserted and arctic, largely admired and always jealoused on. This site is an invitation through time and one of the most beautiful mountain areas, to dream, one might want to dream of the last unknown soil of the world. If this could be of use to you for any details or future expeditions to Kashmir, it would be my greates award and please feel free to contact me on this subject.
